VP Biden–”It’s easy being VP, you don’t have to do anything”

Friday, February 26th, 2010

http://www.politico.com/click/stories/1002/biden_its_easy_being_vp.html

There have been some tense moments during today’s health care summit at the Blair House, but not for Vice President Joe Biden, it seems.

Just moments before the afternoon session got underway, C-SPAN’s cameras picked up audio of Biden chatting casually with participants.

“It’s easy being vice president — you don’t have to do anything.”

Whomever Biden was chatting with said, “It’s like being the grandpa and not the parent.”

“Yeah, that’s it!” replied Biden.

Biden spokesman Jay Carney tells POLITICO that the vice president was “obviously joking, as any review of his schedule and responsibilities would make abundantly clear.”

“In the last month, the vice president has, among many other things, made his fourth trip to Iraq since being elected, delivered a major speech on the administration’s non-proliferation agenda, produced a report on the Recovery Act’s first year to the president and played a key role in bringing about the president’s bi-partisan Fiscal Commission,” Carney said. “In the coming days and weeks, the vice president will deliver a first-year report from the Middle Class Task Force, which he chairs, and travel to the Middle East to meet with key leaders in the region.”

You have got to love when our elected leaders–the 2nd most powerful man in the country–admits that he does absolutely nothing for our country.

He is the VICE PRESIDENT!!! America is HURTING right now. 10% unemployment…housing is shot…nobody is working…taxes are thru the roof… COME ON!

More Senators line up behind Nelson and ask for their healthcare payoff courtesy of the US tax payers

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/12/22/nelson-says-senators-seeking-special-treatment-light-nebraska-deal/

Short story: Senator Nelson (D) Nebraska gets paid off to vote for the healthcare bill. Several other senators then come up to Nelson and tell him they’re going to start asking for goodies in their healthcare stockings or they won’t vote for the bill. Nelson claims he wants to return his payoff and strip it from the healthcare bill because his governor told him to ask for it…the governor of Nebraska tells him “that is a lie, I don’t even want you to vote for the healthcare bill.” And that, my friends, is where we are at now.

Just more proof of how our government in D.C. is paying off Senators for their votes. America has gone to poop. DO NOT TRUST THE GOVERNMENT THEY ARE ONLY LOOKING OUT FOR THEMSELVES!

I am absolutely FURIOUS

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama, in remarks aired late Sunday, awarded himself a B plus for his first 11 months in office, stressing in an interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey that there was still much to be done.

“A good solid B plus,” Obama said during an hour-long, intimate soft-focus ABC network Christmas at the White House special, when Winfrey asked what grade he would give himself.

Explaining why he wouldn’t give himself top marks, the president said his administration had “inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt” which they were still working on.

He had earned good points for helping to stabilize the economy, setting a path out of Iraq and restoring America’s international image, but the job was not yet finished.

“B plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed. If I get health care passed, we tip into A minus,” Obama said, his hair visibly grayer than when he took office on January 20.

Winfrey was given an inside tour of the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama, wearing a knee-skimming, long-sleeved simple plum dress.

They inspected the decorations and trees adorning every nook and cranny of the nation’s most exclusive address, and which have taken most of the year to plan.

Pride of place went to a huge Christmas tree in the Blue Room hung with more than 650 baubles collected from around the White House closets and then sent around the country for people to decorate by hand with local scenes.

And there was also the 350-pound (160-kilo) gingerbread White House in the dining room, smothered in white chocolate with a model of Bo, the family dog, sitting by the steps.

Michelle Obama acknowledged that Portuguese waterhound Bo, who showed Oprah that he can “High-five” with his paw, would have his own stocking hanging up for Santa.

“Santa loves Bo too,” the first lady exclaimed, as she revealed officially that the family would be spending the Christmas holidays in Hawaii where the president spent much of his childhood.

Obama said that if he had a seasonal wish it was: “I want the American people to feel confident that our future is gonna be bright.

“The 21st century will be as much the American century as the 20th century, as long as we maintain our sense of unity, but also our sense of hard work and determination,” the president added.

Sometimes holding Winfrey’s hand or putting his arm around her shoulder, the president said that visits to the White House by ordinary Americans were events that he cherished the most. He recalled one such visit by the mother and father of a fallen soldier.

“Those kinds of moments are the ones that you remember, partly because you’re seeing the place through their eyes,” he added.

“When they come here, this is their house. I’m the renter. I’m the borrower. This is the people’s house, and one of the things that Michelle and I have both been trying to do is to make sure that we open this place up.”

Pointing to the Resolute desk — a 19th century gift from Queen Victoria built from timbers of the British frigate HMS Resolute, Obama noted this is where he usually signs letters to families of US soldiers who died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

“When you’re sitting there signing it, you feel the weight of what you’re doing,” he said.

What the HECK!!! He awards himself a B+? FOR WHAT!!! He has the lowest rating of ANY president at this point in his presidency for good reason!!!

I mean, what the heck does he think he has done to deserve a B+? What kind of grading scale is he using? The UN’s scale? COME ON. Inherited it? Whatever!

I cannot think of a single positive thing Barak Hussein Obama has done for our country. B+ my Ask me no more about this. I am furious, ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS I TELL YOU!

Our government delays the media from commenting on the global warming liars for 2 weeks

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009
This yahoo story is bogus. Read the foxnews one, excerpt below.
“An examination of morning and evening news programs on ABC, CBS and NBC since Nov. 20 yielded zero mentions of the scandal, even in the Nov. 25 reports about Obama going to Copenhagen to discuss the need for emissions reductions,” the Institute reported Wednesday. But during that time, the Institute says, “the networks reported on pro-golfer Tiger Woods’ ‘minor’ car accident at least 37 times. They also found time to report on an orphaned Moose and the meal selection at the president’s State Dinner.”

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell reacted to the findings saying, “To pretend this story simply doesn’t exist is damning to journalism.”

The government kept from commenting on the story for 2 weeks until they could come up with an answer.

Remember on V for Vendetta when they twist the stories in the media? This is the exact same thing.

It’s funny how clearly we can see it.

These scientists were directly lying and manipulating data to show what they wanted.

Remember watching “Expelled” with Ben Stein? Remember how all of the intelligent design proponents were fired and blackballed? It’s because of these guys and their “junk science.” They twist everything to match what they want.
I am sooo frustrated with our country right now. We are SO FAKE.
Our media is just a puppet for the government, our large corporations are getting taken over by the government, our economy has been completely destroyed PURPOSELY by our government,  what is next? Really people…what comes next?
Does ANYONE have a solution? The government controls the money supply and thus they control the entire populace. They can make our money worthless with a single click of the mouse (and they are, although they are doing it slowly so we won’t panic:P). What’s that? You don’t want to be controlled owned by the UN? Too bad. It is no longer your choice. It is DC’s.
Ugh. I am disgusted.

Government to get authority to dissolve companies they see as unprofitable

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

http://www.property-casualty.com/News/2009/12/Pages/Financial-Stability-Bill-Including-Insurers-Passes-House-Panel-.aspx

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/26/AR2009102603260.html

Basically the government is passing bills that will give them the authority to dissolve companies that pose a “systemic risk.” Of course the government will be the ones deciding what companies pose a risk…and as one person commented on the story: “If taxpayers are on the hook to ‘bail’ these compaies out, then I don’t see a problem making sure that they are run properly.”  There is only one problem with that logic–it is the same logic the government is using!!! This is the governments excuse…bail out a company–and then because we bailed it out we are now in control of it!

Let me throw one more thing out there–does anyone but me think it is ridiculous how much the representatives and senators get paid in DC? And why is there this whole dynasty thing going on? Are they royalty? What happened to the working man representing his community? I’m afraid that the separation between DC and the rest of the citizens  subjects of the US is no longer a small line in the sand–it has now turned into a gigantic abyss that runs far deeper and is far wider than can ever be filled by conventional means.

Swiss to regulate firearms. Soldiers no longer required to keep guns at home.

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

November 27, 2009 – 3:14 PM http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news_digest/Security_of_army_guns_to_be_improved.html?siteSect=104&sid=11548102&cKey=1259331254000&ty=nd

Security of army guns to be improved
Swiss soldiers who do not want to keep their military-issue guns at home are to be allowed to store them for free at an army logistics centre

The new rule, which comes into force on January 1, was adopted by the Swiss government on Friday as part of its amendments to the regulations on firearms.

The cabinet also called for earlier detection of soldiers who represent a potential threat.

Under another amendment, men who wish to keep their gun after completing their compulsory army service will now have to present a weapons acquisition permit.

Although it is a long-standing tradition for Swiss men to keep their army-issue weapon at home, the practice has come under increasing criticism.

There have been a series of highly publicised killings with army weapons in the past few years, including the random shooting of a young girl at a bus stop in 2007. Suicides with army guns are also a relatively frequent occurrence.

swissinfo.ch and agencies

Remember how the Swiss are pretty much the only place where the army trains the soldiers and then gives every single one of them a gun and 50 rounds of ammunition to keep at home? Well over the past several years support has been dwindling for this tradition and as of January 1st it will basically be over.

I predict that the Swiss will not only be invaded within the next 20 years but that their country will be completely and utterly overcome by their invaders.

Airgun gets up, walks across room, and shoots small boy

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Nov 22 2009 Keith Mcleod, Sunday Mail

 http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics-news/2009/11/22/exclusive-victory-for-andrew-s-parents-as-msps-get-right-to-outlaw-weapons-86908-21841042/

MSPs will be given the power to ban deadly airguns, we can reveal today.

Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy has secured an agreement to transfer authority over the weapons from Westminster to Edinburgh.

It means a ban – which has allparty support at Holyrood – is now almost certain.

The deal is a massive victory for the parents of tragic toddler Andrew Morton.

Sharon and Andy Morton have campaigned relentlessly for the ban since Andrew, two, was gunned down four years ago.

Little Andrew was shot in the head by twisted Mark Bonnini, 27, as the tot stopped in the street to look at a fire engine yards from his home in Glasgow’s east end.

Last night, Sharon said: “This is the best Christmas present we could ever have wished for.

“This might not be the end, but I feel we have turned a corner and i t ‘ s certainly the beginning of the end.

“I feel we are fulfilling the promise to Andrew that we made at his graveside, and that is for a total ban on airguns in Scotland.”

Andrew’s dad, Andy, 35, said: “All the political parties have now accepted the principle that this is an issue which should be decided at Holyrood.

“And at Holyrood, a l l the parties have supported us.

“I f t h i s b a n g o e s t h r o u g h , we will be rid of the 500,000 airguns on Scotland’s streets. As far as I am concerned, you can call it Andrew’’s Law.”

Murphy has struck a deal with Home Secretary Alan Johnson, with details contained in the UK Government’s White Paper responding to the Calman Commission due to be published shortly.

It is understood that Murphy spoke to Johnson on a “number of occasions” in a bid to secure the right of Holyrood ministers to pass legislation on what is recognised as a particular problem in Scotland.

It represents a major change of heart by the Westminster Government – as late as March last year, the then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith again rejected calls for airgun laws to be devolved.

But last night, Whitehall sources confirmed that Murphy and Johnson have agreed that transferring legislative powers to Holyrood, despite logistical difficulties, can proceed.

Bonnini was jailed for at least 13 years for Andrew’s murder.

And since the toddler’s tragic death, UK legislation on air weapons has been tightened.

The minimum age for owning an airgun has risen from 17 to 18, mail-order sales have been banned and all retailers must now be registered.

This has seen a big reduction in offences and serious injuries in Scotland.

Three Scots have died and more than 1,100 have been injured by airguns in the last 10 years.

Previously, Holyrood Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill’s calls for a summit aimed at reforming gun legislation were rejected by former Home Secretary Smith, who said it was “not timely”.

The new legislation – like all Calman recommendations – is unlikely to become law before the General Election.

But a Tory victory in the election would still clear the way for the new Holyrood devolved airgun powers since Scottish Tories support an airgun ban and the party at UK level have given their backing to the Calman Commission.

Last night, a Scotland Office spokesman said: “The UK Government will set out its response to Calman very shortly.

“Air weapons will be dealt with as part of that.”

The people of Great Britain are losing more freedoms everyday…and they don’t even care. They are too scared to stand up for themselves, too afraid of something–someone. They don’t want to wake up and see what they have lost…they would rather go to their football matches and drink their tea than wake up and smell the coffee. YOUR FREEDOMS ARE GONE. It is like they aren’t even real people anymore…I mean…they have no freedom. They have to do what the government says because they are completely dependent upon it. This is the direction America is headed. Wake up, America!

Chicago Politicians Ban Hidden Handguns for Everyone But Themselves

Armed pols: An unfortunate Chicago tradition

Steve ChapmanNovember 22, 2009

Last week, the body of Chicago school board president Michael Scott was found in the Chicago River with a single bullet wound in his head. The big story was that this powerful, well-connected public official had, according to the Cook County medical examiner, committed suicide. The less-noticed story was that he did it with an illegal weapon.

After all, handgun ownership is not allowed in Chicago, which has one of the strictest gun control laws in the country, and Scott killed himself with a .380-caliber sidearm.

Unlike most Chicagoans, Scott could have been a legal handgun owner. Because he had it before the ban was enacted, he was allowed to register and keep it. But the police department says he never did. By having it in the city, Scott was guilty of an offense that could have gotten him jail time.

Amazingly enough, he was not the first local public official to take the view that firearms restrictions are something for other, ordinary people to observe. Chicago politicians are zealously committed to gun control in law, but fairly relaxed about it in practice.

In 1994, state Sen. Rickey Hendon, D-Chicago, had an unregistered handgun stolen from his home in a burglary, and he didn’t feign contrition about his disregard of the ordinance.

“I have a right to protect myself,” he declared, noting that he had been burglarized before — and forgetting that the state legislature of which he is a member allows Illinois cities to deprive their citizens of that right. Asked if he would replace the lost piece, Hendon said, “No comment.” The police were kind enough not to charge him.

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris, another Chicagoan, has endorsed a nationwide ban on handguns and, in 1993, organized Chicago’s first Gun Turn-in Day. But the following year, while running unsuccessfully for governor, he admitted he owned a handgun — “for protection,” he explained — and hadn’t seen fit to turn it in along with those other firearms. Lesser mortals apparently can protect themselves with forks and spoons.

Scott was shot in the abdomen while chasing a burglar in 1988, so it’s understandable that he would appreciate the value of having the means to defend himself against criminals. But that understanding didn’t extend to the needs of ordinary Chicagoans. When the city gun ban was challenged in court, the board of education that he headed filed a brief defending Chicago’s right “to prohibit classes of arms in order to prevent crime and protect public safety.”

A law banning handguns, in Scott’s view, was necessary to protect public safety. But when it came to protecting his private safety, he somehow perceived the law to be a hindrance, not a help.

Does his attitude carry the distinct tang of hypocrisy? Yes, but that’s not out of the ordinary for Chicago politicians. Under a state law dating back to 1872, mayors and aldermen are designated peace officers. And, conveniently, peace officers are permitted to not only own but carry handguns.

That makes aldermen a special class in Illinois, one of only two states with an almost complete ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. In most places, an adult with no criminal record or history of psychiatric commitment can get a concealed-carry license after taking a training class.

But here, we have a unique system. You want to be able to pack a weapon in public for your safety? Fine. All you have to do is 1) run for the City Council and 2) win.

Why the state assumes that aldermen are fit for this prerogative is a mystery. “Law-abiding” is not the very first word that comes to mind when you think of the City Council. Since 1972, 27 of its members have been convicted on charges involving malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance, disfeasance and anti-feasance with mopery aforethought.

It would be hard to come up with a group of people that has proven itself less deserving of blanket trust. The most recent convict, Arenda Troutman, got four years in prison for bribery after being caught on tape attesting that “most aldermen, most politicians are ho’s.” At a 1991 neighborhood meeting that got rowdy, Ald. Dorothy Tillman reportedly pulled out her handgun and waved it pugnaciously.

In Chicago, only criminals and aldermen are armed. Forgive me for being redundant.

I found this article very interesting. So in Chicago you can only own and carry a handgun if you are the mayor or on the city council? What makes the city council “peace makers” and thus allowed to carry handguns? Well…they do.

It is interesting to see so clearly how the senators and politicians don’t look at the laws they are making as something that applies to them…the laws are only something that applies to the lower class….the “sheeple” if you will.

I hate chicago.

US in midst of major slump…oh really?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The Yahoo story is titled “US in midst of major slump.” Couldn’t they tell us something we didn’t know? When my unemployment checks are BOUNCING you kinda get the idea that things aren’t whoop-dee-doo in la-la land. (I’m not on unemployment but you get the idea). We’re up to what 18% unemployment? That’s nearly 1 in 5 people unemployed! Mercy…

Disappointing reports this week on housing starts and foreclosures, as well as the index of leading economic indicators, have cast a bit of a pall on the “robust recovery” story, putting a crimp in the stock market’s ascent in the process.University of Texas professor James Galbraith was never a believer in the V-shaped recovery and says it’s going to take a very long time for the U.S. to recover from a “truly extraordinary slump.”

What the optimists are missing is the impact the housing bust is having on both American’s ability to borrow and banks willingness to lend. The resulting credit contraction will prevent this recovery from following the path of those following prior post-war recessions, he says.

“There’s no question the U.S. economy has stabilized but [it] remains very weak and will likely continue to be weak,” Galbraith says. “There’s very little sign the benefits that are being felt on Wall Street will be felt in the broader country anytime soon.”

Galbraith predicts the unemployment rate will continue to rise into 2010 and decline “very slowly” thereafter. The U.S. economy needs “substantially greater policy intervention,” he says, focused on the following:

  • Housing Woes: As of Sept. 30, over 14% of American homeowners with a mortgage are either behind on payments or in foreclosure, the Mortgage Bankers Association said Thursday. Those figures suggest the real inventory of homes for sale is much bigger than the “official” 8-month supply, as The WSJ reports. The government must do more to prevent foreclosures, Galbraith says.
  • Smart Jobs: Beyond merely putting people to work, Galbraith seeks policies that would both “create employment and set a strategic direction for the economy,” most notably in the area of renewable energy.
  • Boomer Blues: With millions of Baby Boomers at or near retirement age, Galbraith advocates aid for new retirees, “so the demographic transition goes more smoothly than it otherwise would. “

In sum, Galbraith still says we need a second stimulus package, as we’ll discuss in more detail in a forthcoming segment.

Report: Millions of couples, retirees may have to repay some of Obama tax credit

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 15 million taxpayers could unexpectedly owe taxes when they file their federal returns next spring because the government was too generous with their new Making Work Pay tax credit.

Taxpayers are at risk if they have more than one job, are married and both spouses work, or receive Social Security benefits while also earning taxable wages, according to a report Monday by the Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration.

The tax credit, which is supposed to pay individuals up to $400 and couples up to $800, was President Barack Obama’s signature tax break in the massive stimulus package enacted in February.

Most workers started receiving the credit through small increases in their paychecks in April. The tax credit was made available through new withholding tables issued by the Internal Revenue Service.

The withholding tables, however do not take into account taxpayers with multiple jobs or married couples in which both people work. They also don’t take into account Social Security recipients with jobs that provided taxable income.

The Social Security Administration sent out $250 payments to more than 50 million retirees in the spring as part of the economic stimulus package. The payments were meant to provide a boost for people who didn’t’ qualify for the tax credit.

However, they went to many retirees who also received the credit. Those retirees will have the $250 payment deducted from their tax credit — but not until they file their tax returns next year, long after the money may have been spent.

“While implementing a credit through reduced withholding is an effective way to provide economic stimulus evenly throughout the year, it is difficult to account for everyone’s circumstances,” said J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. “More than 10 percent of all taxpayers who file individual tax returns for 2009 could owe additional taxes.”

The tax credit is also available for 2010. Russell said the problems will continue in 2010 if they are not resolved.

The credit pays workers 6.2 percent of their earned income, up to a maximum of $400 for individuals and $800 for married couples who file jointly. Individuals making more than $95,000 and couples making more than $190,000 are ineligible.

“Making Work Pay was designed to deliver much needed boosts to the paychecks of 95 percent of all working Americans,” said Nayyera Haq, a Treasury Department spokeswoman. “Since enactment, more than 110 million families have benefited from as much as $60 in additional take home pay each month to put toward their family budgets, serving as a steady boost to spending and consumption.”

For many, the new tax tables will simply mean smaller-than-expected tax refunds next year. The average tax refund this year was about $2,800.

The IRS, in a response to the audit, advised taxpayers to check their withholding throughout the year to make sure they don’t get hit with an unexpected tax bill.

“The withholding system must approximate the tax liability of tens of millions of Americans, and therefore, cannot be tailored precisely to fit every individual situation,” Richard Byrd Jr., commissioner of the IRS’ wage and investments division, wrote in the agency’s response to the report.

I’m not sure if I will have no income tax refund this year or not…the government has screwed up our their tax system so bad I have no idea what is going on. If the government can’t even get something like tax withholding changes right than how the HECK are they going to run healthcare? They can’t even run the post office!

Ugh. I am …ashamed of my government. Embarressed.
